Fortune FC's Community Playbook
Fortune Sacco FC was established in 2011 as part of the Sacco’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative aimed at addressing social challenges in Kirinyaga County, particularly drug and illicit brew abuse among the youth. What began as broader sponsorship of 36 football clubs later evolved into focused support for one competitive team drawing talent from across the county.
Beyond football, the club has become a powerful tool for youth transformation. Players gain exposure at provincial levels, travel for matches, and access new opportunities locally and internationally. Several former players have progressed to play abroad, while others have leveraged the discipline and savings culture instilled through the club to build stable livelihoods from owning taxis to running businesses like M-Pesa shops. One former player even credits his football training for helping him secure and endure service in the Kenya Defence Forces.
The club’s impact extends beyond players. Match days create small business opportunities for local youths, and the program has helped reform individuals struggling with drug abuse by giving them purpose and income avenues.
In essence, Fortune Sacco FC is not just a football team but a community development platform that combines sport, financial inclusion, discipline, and social rehabilitation to create lasting economic and personal transformation.
